In a dreadful incident, a 24-year-old woman was reportedly kidnapped in broad daylight from her workplace in the Muktsar district of Punjab and was later raped, reports NDTV.

The accused, identified as Gurjinder has reportedly surrendered before the police on Saturday, reports NDTV.

This tragic event occurred on March 24 and the entire abduction was caught on a CCTV installed in a nearby shop.

The footage clearly shows a man dragging the victim as she desperately tries to break free. She also reportedly shouted for help multiple times, but no one came to help even as several vehicles drove by.

Two other people, who reportedly are colleagues of the victim are seen running on the street in a bid to rescue her.

The NDTV report also claims that the man later took her to a farmhouse and raped her, before releasing her the next day.

According to the police, the accused is from the same village which she hails from and knew her.

The police registered an FIR five days after the incident, but the arrest was only made almost a month afterwards.

Meanwhile, the report also said that the National Commission for Scheduled Caste had taken cognizance of the incident and summoned top Muktsar Police officers seeking an explanation for the delay in arresting the accused, reports India Today.
