We all love our grandparents. They were an integral part of our childhood and we just cannot imagine growing up without them. From their endless advice and unconditional love to priceless gifts ( My grandpa gave me my first cycle which I still have because of the sentiments attached to it) , we all have so many little anecdotes about our grandparents. While some of us are lucky to still have them around, a lot of us sadly have just the sweet, old memories that we’ve collected along the way. Here are the 10 things that we miss the most about our grandparents.

1. Visiting them during summer vacations.

The fondest memory we have as children is going to our grandparents’ house for the summer vacation. That was the highlight of our entire year and our grandparents ensured it was like an extended party for us.

2. Shagan or pocket money.

They never used to let us leave their house empty-handed. Goodies and shagan were a daily ritual. That 100 Rupees note from them could put us on top of the world .

3. Everything used to be free.

Not only the shagan , our entire trip to their house was sponsored and felt nothing short of a five-star vacation at an exotic resort. ( My grandpa told our local confectionery store not to ask for money whenever I visited. The 8-year-old me felt like a celebrity thanks to that.)

4. The endless advice.

Whether it was a small problem at school or a big fight with parents, we could always go up to them and they would give us the best advice. Our worries would go away in a minute.

5. Grandma’s delicacies.

We can still remember the smell of dadi’s special delicacies. She weaved magic into anything she cooked and could even give the masterchefs a run for their money.

6. Dadi’s magical hands had the cure for everything.

Not only was she a masterchef, she was also our homes’ certified doctor. Just seconds after we complained of a headache or a bruise, the superwoman would get into action.

7. Our first teachers.

Our grandparents were our first teachers who taught us the lessons of life. We woke up to their smiling faces every morning and dozed off to their voice teaching us life’s lessons every night.

8. The best storytellers.

The were the best storytellers and had a story for every occasion. From ek tha raja, ek thi rani, to the story of the lomrhi , they could go on and on until we fell asleep.

9. They were our best companions when we had a fight with our parents.

It was so good to have someone always take our side!

10. Just seeing their faces.

Only a few of us are lucky to still have our grandparents around, but for all of us, one of the best things about childhood was seeing their loving faces smiling at us.
