Scientists discovered dark, narrow, 100 metre long streaks called ‘recurring slop lineae’ along the the surface of the planet’s craters and canyon walls. It has now been confirmed that these streaks were caused by flowing water.

NASA scientists have discovered what they believe is evidence of the presence of liquid water on Mars.

These darkish streaks were found to ‘ebb and flow’ with the season, darkening during the warmer seasons and fading when temperatures arise.

When speaking to NASA , Lujendra Ojha of the Georgia Institute of Technology and lead author of a report on the finding said,”When most people talk about water on Mars, they’re usually talking about ancient water or frozen water. Now we know there’s more to the story. This is the first spectral detection that unambiguously supports our liquid water-formation hypotheses for RSL (recurring slope lineae).”

So while life on Mars is still a long way away, for a lot of us of a certain generation, our first thoughts probably strayed to this:
