In order to warn thousands of migrants escaping from crisis-ridden Syria and its nearby areas to European nations, Islamic State insurgents are circulating images of drowned three-year-old Aylan Kurdi calling it a ‘major sin’.

The image was published in their English magazine, Dabiq, under the headline, ‘The danger of Abandoning Darul-Islam,’ which means the land of Islam, including the group’s self-declared ‘caliphate’ in Syria and Iraq.

“Sadly, some Syrians and Libyans are willing to risk the lives and souls of… their children, sacrificing many of them during the dangerous trip to the lands of the war-waging crusaders ruled by the laws of atheism and indecency,” reports the magazine. It also specifically mentions the ‘threat’ of being exposed to atheism, drugs, alcohol and sexual permissiveness if people migrate to European nations.

“It should be known that voluntarily leaving Dārul-Islām (lands of Islam) for dārul-kufr (land of unbelievers) is a dangerous major sin, as it is a passage towards kufr (disbelief) and a gate towards one’s children and grandchildren abandoning Islam for Christianity, atheism, or liberalism,” it said.

In what can be called as the biggest wave of migration since World War Two, the ongoing crisis in Syria, Iraq and Libya this year has led to thousands of people crossing the Mediterranean to reach Europe. During one such attempt, two boats capsized drowning hundreds of migrants last week.
