The ones who love us never really leave us – J K Rowling

The last time we saw Harry Potter, he was waving off two of his sons, James Sirius Potter and Albus Severus Potter at platform number nine and three quarters, King’s Cross station, London. After that we only heard about the characters in bits from Rowling’s website, Pottermore.

On Friday, many Potterheads jumped with joy (especially when the ones living in London), when Pottermore released an article which said Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the official eighth story in the Harry Potter series.

It will be a play written by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany and it will be staged on London’s Palace theatre next year. It is not a prequel as Rowling had repeatedly said in her tweets . The story is based 19 years later, on grown up Harry and his kids.

Here is the full synopsis of the play, as mentioned on Pottermore .

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

The play will be in two parts and cast and features will be announced later.

“It is very exciting to explore Harry’s world in a brand new way through the live form of theatre. Collaborating on this story is exhilarating for all of us and we can’t wait to present the eighth story at the Palace Theatre next summer,” said Rowling Thorne and Tiffany.

“The story only exists because the right group of people came together with a brilliant idea about how to present Harry Potter on stage. I’m confident that when audiences see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child they will understand why we chose to tell this story in this way,” added Rowling.

More details have been announced about ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’, the new play based on an original new story…
