She thought that winning a Miss Universe Japan crown would get her all the accolades and appreciation she needed in her country. But she was grossly mistaken, as all she got was racist jibes from her ‘own’ country men who questioned her nationality despite she being born and brought up in Japan.

The last time a Miss Universe contender faced such racial backlash online, it was Nina Davuluri, an Indian-original citizen of USA who won Miss America in 2014.

Here is a video of the 20-year-old Miss Universe Japan, Ariana Miyamoto, which tells us how her half Japanese half Afro-American identity is not accepted by the Japanese society.
