It’s that time of the year again. The Nobel prize awards are here. And, the first prize of the year is for physiology. *Drumrolls*

Three scientists from Ireland, Japan and China won the Nobel Prize in medicine on Monday. Their discoveries helped doctors fight malaria and infections caused by roundworm parasites.

Irish-born William Campbell and Satoshi Omura were awarded the Nobel for discovering a drug that has helped lower the incidence of river blindness and lymphatic filariasis, two diseases caused by parasitic worms.Tu Youyou, the first ever Chinese medicine laureate, discovered a drug that has helped significantly reduce the mortality rates of malaria patients. She is the 13th woman to win this Nobel Prize.
