Following weeks of stand-off with Hungarian authorities, refugees in the southern part of Hungary have declared that they are sitting on a hunger strike. The move follows imposition of tough laws against refugees, and a crisis being declared in two southern provinces of Hungary.

The head of the national disaster unit said that following the inflow of refugees, the border zone in these areas will be extended to 60 metres. The border with Serbia was closed after almost six thousand refugees crossed into Hungary on Sunday, taking the total number of refugees to 1,90,000.

The railway passage was closed by erecting razor wire fences and police officials said, “We have had around 1,800 people from midnight until now.” The refugees are facing arrests if they cross the fence.

The ongoing refugee crisis has caused a turmoil in Europe, with hundreds of thousands of refugees from Syria entering European nations.
