It was Mahashivratri, so quite obviously the Shiva temple in Shrinagar area of Thane was buzzing with crowds on Monday with a long queue of devotees waiting for their turn to pay their respects. But when there is a large crowd there’s every possibility of an unruly devotee.

And in this case it turned out to be a 40-year-old man who totally lost his cool when a priest asked him not to jump the queue and take off his shoes before entering the temple.

Baburao Patil, the old priest was just doing his simple duty and lo and behold, the man bit his right hand and then his right ear in anger, reported DNA.

The accused, who was identified as Shivaji Nana Salunke, didn’t even spare a police constable who tried to intervene.

Ironically, the 31-year-old constable was trying to rescue Salunke from the crowd which had begun to attack him.

After the brawl, a case was registered at Shrinagar police station on Monday night against Salunke for assault and criminal intimidation, reported Mid-Day.

Luckily, the priest Patil didn’t sustain any major injuries and was discharged from the clinic after getting first aid.
