Soon after the Supreme Court stayed the government order lifting ban on Jallikattu, Twitter was full of angry reactions, with many thrashing the move and openly supporting the controversial bull-taming sport in Tamil Nadu.
The stay means that the 2014 SC judgment banning jallikattu will continue to prevail, so the sport won't be played during Pongal starting on January 15.
The hashtag #WeNeedJallikattu starting trending, and comparisons with similar religious festivals involving animals began to be drawn - most common being Bakri-Eid.
Some questioned the motive of PETA:
Almost 63013 chickens are being killed daily by KFC, where is PETA?#WeNeedJallikattu— ram (@famoxion) January 12, 2016
Why ignore Bakri-Eid, others questioned:
Some saw a conspiracy:
Stop every tradition and kill all hindu traditions seems to be the grand plan #WeNeedJallikattu— Ashutosh (@muglikar_) January 12, 2016
