Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a rude shock on Friday when he was greeted with slogans and protests by a student at the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow.

As Modi, who was a guest at the university's convocation ceremony, began his speech, a student started shouting "Narendra Modi Murdabad" and "Modi go back". The sloganeering student was escorted out of the auditorium immediately on the spot while some other protesters have been detained.

However, Prime Minister remained unfazed with the incident and continued his speech remembering prominent Dalit icon Dr B R Ambedkar. His speech was highly anticipated as it is the first time he broke his silence on Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula's suicide.
