Six days after a devastating avalanche which overran ten brave Indian soldiers at the world’s highest battlefield in Siachen, Lance Naik Hanumanthappa was brought out alive, as he survived what nine of his comrades could not.

As Hanumanthappa lies in comatose and a state of shock with low blood pressure, the nation is lauding his extraordinary endurance and an indomitable spirit of survival. He has been placed on ventilator to protect his airway and lungs, and it has been learnt that he has pneumonia along with liver and kidney dysfunction.

  • Coming from Karnataka, Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad’s family hails from Betadur village in Dharwad, from where is family is travelling to Delhi to meet him.
  • Described as a strong but soft spoken person by those who know him, Hanumanthappa was named after lord Hanuman, which is father links to his survival.

  • Hanumanthappa was a part of the 10 Madras regiment, and was recently posted to Siachen.
  • The soldier who was protecting the nation at a height of 19000 feet and a temperature of minus 45 degrees Celsius, has a wife and a one and a half year old daughter waiting at home.
  • The rescue team, which discovered Hanumanthappa under a block of hardened snow, and experts said that he survived because he was trapped in an air bubble.

While a team of doctors is attending to Lance Naik Hanumanthappa in Delhi’s Army Research and Referral Hospital, the PM and the Army chief have visited the miraculous survivor.
