A British-era bridge collapsed on the Mumbai-Goa highway in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Wednesday due to heavy rains.

The collapse is gauged at an extent of 80%, confirmed local deputy superintendent Pranjali Sonawane, reports The Times of India.

At least two buses and several other vehicles are missing near Mahad city after the bridge on the Savitri River collapsed. An IANS report says, around 22 people are reported to be missing.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken the stock of the situation and the officials have swung into action.
