We’ve always called dogs as our best companions, and rightly so. There are so many incidents to prove that it is so much more than just a saying. Reiterating our faith in this friendship is one incident from Kerala where a dog relentlessly followed a human on a long and tiring journey of 600 kms!

The dog, Malu, walked for 600 kms with 38-year-old Naveen on his pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine in Pathanamthitta.

Naveen and the selfless pooch struck a friendship during a 600-km long journey to a pilgrimage on foot. It was on the second day of his journey, when Naveen had covered the first 80 kms, he noticed that Malu had been walking with him all along, sometimes ahead of him, and at other times following him.

Malu, the amazing dog didn’t abandon Naveen throughout the arduous journey of 600 kms and would even guard his belongings when he wasn’t around. So, as the journey ended and Naveen took a bus back home, he bought 2 tickets, one for him and one for his new friend who was sitting beside him.

The duo wasn’t always together. There came a time during the journey when Malu lost track of Naveen and lost him in Pampa near a shrine. But the devotees who had seen the duo walking together from Kozhikode contacted Naveen on his phone and told him that Malu was waiting for him at the steps, sniffing people all around to find him. Naveen told Indian Express:

“For the next one-and-a-half days, Malu waited there for my return and jumped on me when when finally saw him.”

What a heartening story!
