That the '90s was the golden era is not even up for debate. The music, the serials, the songs, everything about it was just so good. This was the time when MTV wasn't another soppy serial channel and actually played songs. When Channel V was the in thing to watch and listening to some Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears on our walkman was the coolest thing there was to do. Man! Those were the days, right?
We're in a nostalgic mood today so we decided we'll take you along on a trip down memory lane. We're going to give you every song that was the background score to every big moment of your life in the '90s:
So here are some golden numbers from the '90s you should give a listen to, once again!
1. Vengaboys - To Brazil
Shaadis, clubs, house parties and birthday parties... every major gathering had to play this song.
2. Hit Me Baby - Britney Spears
All of us thought this song was about sex. I mean what else could 'Hit me baby one more time' mean, right? Turns out it was just a girl asking her boyfriend to call her once more after their nasty break up.
3. Macarena - Los Del Río
Can you believe this track was about a girl telling us how she cheated on her boyfriend? #ChildhoodRuined
4. Wannabe - Spice Girls
The ultimate girl anthem of the '90s! If you think about it, it's still pretty relevant. *If you wannabe be my lover, you gotta get with my friends.*
5. Livin La Vida Loca - Ricky Martin
Ah! Ricky Martin was the hot shiz back then and boy, did he make us bust a move or two?
6. Wonderwall - Oasis
Go to any club on a karaoke night and you'll have to sit through at least 5 people singing this song.
7. I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys
No matter how old we get, this is one boy band that will be forever loved.
8. My Love - Westlife
In our teenage years, we were crushing so hard on these Irish men. And they could strike up a note or two. What more could we've asked for?
9. You're Still The One - Shania Twain
I'm pretty sure a lot of you have got this on one of those mix tapes. Ah, those were some days!
10. Barbie Girl - Aqua
To think we sang and danced to this song makes me cringe now. She's telling him that he can undress her and do whatever he pleases to. Umm. Really now?
11. Truly Madly Deeply - Savage Garden
If Instagram was a thing in the '90s, this song would have been the perfect caption to a photo of your partner and you.
12. That Don't Impress Me Much - Shania Twain
If you wanted to be a badass boss bitch to the lover boys, this was the song to sing, play and sway to!
13. Tic Tic Tac - Chilli
*Baachi Baachi Jumbo, La La Chikki Chikki Cha* Yeah, that's how we sang the song. Well, in our defence, we were just kids.
14. I'll Be There For You - The Rembrandts
F.R.I.E.N.D.S. made the song so popular that now it's hard to see one without the other.
15. Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice
The most ridiculous rap song of that time. It made absolutely no sense, but did that stop us from listening? Naah.
16. You Can't Touch This - MC Hammer
Busting one pelvic move after the other, we danced to this like maniacs.
17. Push It - Salt N Pepa
The hip-hop trio that was all about girl power. They rapped, they grooved and they spun the disc with so much badassery.
18. Baby Got Back - Sir Mix A Lot
It was too late when we realised that Sir Mix-A-Lot was actually objectifying women. *Confession - I still know every word of it.*
19. Mambo No.5 - Lou Bega
One, two, three, four, five....da da da. A little bit of Monica in my life...and some more names. Never realised the sexual innuendo in this either. Wow! We were so young and innocent.
20. Boombastic - Shaggy
Is there any '90s song that doesn't have so many sexual innuendos? Doesn't seem like it. Hell, we still love Shaggy!
21. Someday - MLTR
Some of the best pop love songs back in the day were by this band. Paint My love, anyone?
22. Californication - Red Hot Chilli Peppers
That guitar intro is something any '90s kid will recognise from the remotest corners of earth.
23. Iris - Goo Goo Dolls
If words could do justice to the beauty of this song, I would've written a paragraph on it. But man, this song!
24. I Don't Want To Miss A Thing - Aerosmith
Steven Tyler's coarse yet moving voice always gives you goosebumps. And as a background score for Armageddon, this was something truly magical.
25. We Like To Party - Vengaboys
I'm pretty sure, most of us can sing this song even in our sleep.
26. Baby Can I Hold You - Boyzone
Before Ronan Keating went solo, he moved us with his voice with this beautiful melody. Man, were we ready to fall?
27. Nothing Else Matters - Metallica
It was absurdly unusual for Metallica to do a song like this, but it was definitely something. Still one of the best songs ever.
28. Bittersweet Symphony - Verve
Don't make me waste words trying to describe the hard-to-define awesomeness of the song. You surely remember it, don't you?
29. Zombie - Cranberries
Frustrated? Angry? Parents scolded you for sneaking out? This was the way to take revenge.
30. No Diggity - Blackstreet
When Dr. Dre dropped a beat, you just had to go along with it.
31. When You Say Nothing At All - Ronan Keating
The mix tape wasn't complete if it didn't have Ronan Keating on it. Making us go all aww in love since the '90s.
32. Waiting For Tonight - Jennifer Lopez
Before Sia came up with 'Cheap Thrills', JLo was already rocking 'Waiting for Tonight' - the ultimate party song.
33. I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston
If you never played this song for your teenage love or crush back in the day, then I have to ask - What the hell were you doing?
34. It Must Have Been Love - Roxette
I'm pretty sure I listened to this and cried my heart out after my school crush ditched me for my arch-enemy. Ugh, memories.
35. They Don't Care About Us - Michael Jackson
Nothing I say can or ever will do justice to MJ's genius. So just go ahead and give it a listen.
36. Everything I Do, I Do It For You - Bryan Adams
If anything could put us out of the misery of our teenage heartbreak, it was Bryan Adams and his songs.
37. Shake Your Bon Bon - Ricky Martin
Don't tell me you have no idea what he was singing. Of course, you knew. We all did. But we sang along anyway!
38. Bailamos - Enrique
One thing all '90s girls would remember is the mole on his face and the way he so passionately sang his songs.
39. That's The Way It Is - Céline Dion
All teenage problems summed up in one song. That's just the way it is, people.
40. Pure Shores - All Saints
After Spice Girls, they were one girl band who sang songs that resonated with us.
41. Hero - Mariah Carey
If you ever doubted yourself or were down, Mariah Carey came through, sang this song and lifted your spirit, always.
42. My Baby You - Marc Anthony
Trust Marc Anthony to come up with the most sensual song, always.
43. Unbreak My heart - Toni Braxton
There was no one who could match her powerful voice.
44. I'm Your Angel - Céline Dion & R Kelly
Pair up Céline Dion & R Kelly and what you get is called magic.
45. Genie In A Bottle - Christina Aguilera
From 'Genie in a bottle' to 'Moves like Jagger', this woman's voice has been beautifully consistent.
46. Vogue - Madonna
Madonna was not the Queen of Pop for no reason. Her music was way more groovy than many of the new-age artists'.
47. Men In Black - Will Smith
Who knew a handsome man like Mr. Smith could drop some wicked beats and make us groove.
48. It's Gonna Be Me - Nsync
They might not be Backstreet Boys, but they weren't half as bad. And while Bye Bye Bye was the song they were known for, this song was one of the better of the lot.
49. Informer - Snow
Remember this song? The only thing most of us remember would be singing, 'licky boom boom'. So much feels still.
50. Good Vibrations - Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch
We're pretty sure that at some point in your '90s teenage life, you've swayed to some hip-hop by Mark Wahlberg and his funky bunch. *Swweeet sensation* *Tries to hit that high note* *Fails miserably*
