In less than a year, six-year-old Murtaza Ahmedi has gone from wearing a blue plastic bag with Lionel Messi's name at the back to receiving a real shirt from the Argentina superstar to finally meeting the man himself.

Murtaza, who was forced to flee from Afghanistan to Pakistan, got to meet Messi in Doha, where Barcelona are set to play a friendly against Al Ahli.

The Supreme Committee tweeted a video and said that these were the images that the world wanted to see.

"The six-year old boy who dreamed of meeting his hero, #Messi, finally comes true," it added.

Murtaza was identified as the boy in the pictures that had gone viral after his uncle, who lived in Australia, put the media in touch with his father.

The youngster was elated when he had received Messi's original shirt, telling the BBC: "I love Messi and my shirt says Messi loves me."
