The goals, assists and trophies continue to flow, but it's no secret that Lionel Messi has had a bit of a torrid 2015-16 season. The tax fraud charge happened and then the Argentina retirement happened - after his third defeat in the finals of a tournament with his country.
And while the u-turn from retirement has gone well with a goal against Uruguay on his international return, Messi still decided that 2016-17 will be a new beginning.
And that ladies and gentlemen, is the deep thinking behind him going blonde.
“I made a change to start from zero,” he said on Argentine TV says this Eurosport report.
“I was emerging from a lot of controversies, of things that had happened to me, and I said to myself: ‘You’ve got to break this and start again,’” he added.
Well Messi has surely made a good start after his new hair colour (the beard is also quite new) - he already has three goals and three assists in four matches this season.
