A distressed father was forced to carry his dead daughter's body on a moped to a hospital in Tumkur district of Karnataka because there was no ambulance to transfer her.

According to NDTV, Thimappa's 20-year-old daughter, Rathnamma, had a high fever on Sunday and was unable to breathe.

She was taken to a local health centre, but since there were fewer doctors the man was asked to take the girl to a bigger hospital that was 20 kms away.

The man, who is a daily-wage labourer, decided to take his daughter to the hospital on a moped and it was during the journey that she died, reports Deccan Chronicle.

The report further states that the government hospital in their Kudugenahalli village had no ambulance, while a private taxi demanded over Rs 3,000 to take them to the hospital.
