NASA scientists in the United States disputed Tamil Nadu CM's claim saying that the pictures of the crater were more consistent with “a land based explosion” than a Meteorite, as reported by The New York Times.

On 6th of February, 2016, a man was killed and three others were injured in a mysterious explosion in Vellore to which Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said it was a meteorite fall that caused the mishap.

"A mishap occurred yesterday when a meteorite fell in the campus of a private engineering college in Vellore district's K Pantharappalli village." she said in a release.
