In a shocking incident, a Delhi police constable was shot dead while trying to save a couple from being attacked and robbed by a group of criminals near Shahbad Dairy in the outskirts of Delhi on Friday.
The incident took place around 10 pm near the Bawana Industrial Area when constable Anand was patrolling the area.
He noticed a scuffle between some men and a couple. Subsequently, he intervened and managed to catch hold of two miscreants. One of them took out his country-made pistol and fired several rounds at the cop, reports ANI.
Anand still didn't let go of the duo despite suffering serious bullet injuries. The miscreants then repeatedly hit him with a helmet and left him bleeding before fleeing the spot.
Some locals immediately informed the police after spotting the constable lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately taken to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival, reports The Times of India.
According to police officials, bullets had pierced Anand's abdomen, severely damaging his vital organs. His body was later sent for post-mortem. A case of murder has been registered against the miscreants and they are yet to be nabbed by the police.
The police have recorded the statement of the couple and are scanning CCTV footage of the entire incident.
