The Supreme Court has asked Karnataka to release 6000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu in three days despite assembly resolution.

The Karnataka government had moved SC, asking it to postpone its order of sharing water with Tamil Nadu till January 2017 on Monday, reports The Hindu Business Line.

The top court has also ordered the attorney general Mukul Rohatgi to organise a meeting between the two states to sought a solution over the prolonged dispute over water sharing by Friday, reports Hindustan Times. The next of the court will be held on Wednesday.

The apex court order has sparked a huge outrage among Karnataka residents.
