Dalit icon and chief architect of Indian constitution, Dr. BR Ambedkar, is all set to get his tallest-ever statue in Telangana on the eve of his 125th birth anniversary on April 14.
The foundation stone for the 125-feet statue will be laid by Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on April 14.
The statue will take a year to be completed and will be unveiled on the same day next year. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 25 crore.
A year-long widespread celebration of Ambedkar's 125th birthday on a grand scale has been ordered by CM Rao. He has also directed officials to organise a programme every month in the state.
The decision by the Telangana government to install the statue comes a few days after Andhra Pradesh made a similar announcement.
The announcement of erecting a statue of Ambedkar has come at a time when various other state governments have proposed similar monuments of various icons like Sardar Patel and Chhatrapati Shivaji.
