The founder of the page, Brandon Stanton, has stated that till date he has tried his best to be apolitical and didn’t want to take sides in a contentious election. But he now believes that there is no correct time to oppose violence and prejudice, and that this isn’t a political decision, but a moral one.

 Stanton writes,

I’ve watched you retweet racist images. I’ve watched you retweet racist lies… I’ve watched you joyfully encourage violence, and promise to ‘pay the legal fees’ of those who commit violence on your behalf… I’ve watched you gleefully tell stories of executing Muslims with bullets dipped in pig blood. I’ve watched you compare refugees to ‘snakes,’ and claim that ‘Islam hates us.’

However, he writes, that as a journalist he has interviewed hundreds of Muslims on the streets of Iran, Iraq, and Pakistan as well as Syrian and Iraqi refugees. And he has discovered that the hateful one is Donald Trump himself.

Stanton asserts that Trump is not a ‘unifier’, ‘presidential’ or even a ‘victim’. He is in fact a man who has encouraged prejudice and violence in the pursuit of personal power. 

We doubt whether this letter will lead Trump to tone down his rhetoric, but we hope that our politicians too learn that when they preach hatred, it simply shows the vileness in their own hearts and minds.
