Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi is on a roll! After launching Xiaomi Mi Note 2, it revealed yet another revolutionary Mi MIX 'concept' phone which is being hailed as the prettiest smartphone to date.
The Mi Mix smartphone boats of a beautiful, edgeless (or border less) display that covers more than 91 percent of the front surface area giving it a really clean look. (The display has really thin bezels on the top and sides, making it look nearly borderless).
That means there will be so much screen that will simply leave no room at the top (no earpiece or proximity sensor at the top). It uses a piezoelectric ceramic driver for the earpiece and an ultrasonic proximity sensor, which works through the display. Even the selfie camera is positioned at the bottom.
According to Xiaomi's Vice President of International Hugo Barra, Xiaomi Mi Mix has a rating of 91.3 percent, which is the highest screen-to-body ratio on any smartphone available in the market.
The Mi MIX has a 17:9 aspect ratio along with a 1,080 by 2,040 resolution and the edgeless display measures 6.4 inches in diagonal. The 17:9 aspect ratio means even with the on-screen buttons you still get full 16:9 area for your content.
Here are the other specifications:
It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 running at 2.35GHz, backed by either 4GB or 6GB of RAM and a 4,400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
A 16 Megapixel camera on the back with phase-detection autofocus, and the front camera is 5 megapixels, and is positioned at the bottom of the panel.
Two storage options are available, one with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and the other with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The 256GB model also gets gold trim, with 18K gold accents on the camera lens and fingerprint sensor on the back.
Is Mi MIX a preview of Apple iPhone 8?
With Xiaomi trying to cram all modern technology into a single device, experts think that the Mi Mix shows just what could be possible with the iPhone 8. The only thing that Apple can upgrade or optimize in the existing iPhone’s exterior design are the materials and the screen bezels.
The Verge goes on to say that this phone foreshadows the future of all smartphones, whether they be Xiaomi’s, Apple’s, or anyone else’s. And that is a huge thing to say! Even 9to5mac.com comments that's it’s entirely possible that Xiaomi has just given us our best look yet at what may be in store for us with next year’s iPhone.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix will launch on November 4th in China. The base model costs 3,499 yuan (around $516), while the 256GB model is priced at 3,999 yuan, or about $590.
