Did you ever imagine that the magical world of Harry Potter and stories of Snowy and Tintin would be a part of your school syllabus?
Students in the ICSE Board will no longer have to hide their comics in school books in order to fake studying. In a move that will get kids more involved in the curriculum, the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) plans to bring Harry Potter, Asterix, Tintin and Amar Chitra Katha in the walls of school classrooms from next year, reported Times Of India.
Apart from these, students can also lay their hands on stories of fictional Bengali investigator Feluda to those of P G Wodehouse, while the junior classes can have the blue-cap Noddy as part of their curriculum.
The report says that ICSE plans to introduce J K Rowling’s popular Harry Potter series for junior and middle schools while graphic novels such as Tintin, Maus and Asterix will be included in the syllabus from classes 3rd to 8th.
Talking about the implementation of these texts, CISCE chief executive and secretary Gerry Arathoon told TOI that if the schools fail to introduce the recommended curriculum in the upcoming session, they will be given an year’s extension to do so.
