One of the finest music directors and composers of the Hindi film industry, Mohammed Zahur Khayyam’s compositions are timeless in their charm. In a career spanning over four decades, he gave Hindi cinema some of its most memorable movie soundtracks with films like Umrao Jaan, Kabhi Kabhie, Raziya Sultan and many others.
A Padma Bhushan recipient, Khayyam also composed for non-film songs. At a time when film music oscillated between ghazals/classical and ‘modern beats’, Khayyam was the composer who masterfully combined both styles, and gave memorable tracks like these:
