Suchitra Krishnamoorthi Gets Sexually Abused On Twitter For Complaining About ‘Azaan’

After Sonu Nigam’s recent rant against amplified calls for morning prayers, actress-singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi has criticised the “aggressive/ear shattering call for ‘azaan'”, saying she does not need public loudspeakers to remind her of God.

Her tweets were met with both praise and scorn. While some commended her for talking about the issue, others sexually abused her online, calling her an attention-seeker and, worse, a prostitute.

Suchitra, while sharing the abusive messages in a tweet, said, “Look at these perverts! Feel sorry for my India -with this kind of attitude towards women it’s no wonder we’ve become rape capital of d world.”

However, some people tweeted in support of the actress and called out on the sexual abuse:

The trolls began tweeting vile messages at Suchitra after she expressed her displeasure on July 24 at ‘azaan’ being blared through loudspeakers.

When another user reminded her that singer Sonu Nigam had to quit Twitter after he criticised the ‘azaan’ call, which later snowballed into a political controversy, Suchitra said, “Well the ‘azaan’ seems to have gotten louder since his tweet. It’s ridiculous. He tweeted from the same location as me.”

Suchitra’s comments come after Sonu Nigam had tweeted a similar opinion in April, dubbing use of loudspeakers for broadcasting sermons and calls to prayers as hooliganism.
