After A Surge In ‘Chernobyl Selfies’, Show’s Maker Asks People To Stop & Show Some Respect

Buoyed by the release of HBO’s show, Chernobyl, the site of the nuclear tragedy has witnessed a hike in tourism.

tour company that has been offering trips to parts of the Exclusion Zone for 20 years, has noticed a 35% rise in bookings.

The director of Solo East, adds,

Most of the people say they decided to book after seeing this show. It’s almost as though they watch it and then jump on a plane over.

The tourists are flocking to click selfies at Pripyat- the now abandoned city that was built for Chernobyl’s workers and families. 

The show’s creator, Craig Mazin, took to Twitter, asking people to remember that a nuclear tragedy occurred here. He added,

Comport yourselves with respect for all who suffered and sacrificed.

The HBO show itself attempts to serve and acknowledge the sacrifice and the struggles of all those who suffered after the nuclear tragedy.
