Year 1989 was a significant year in Salman Khan’s life. That was the year when he made his debut in Sooraj Barjatya’s magnum opus Maine Pyar Kiya.
But the film marked the debut of not one, but two actors.
One being Salman Khan.
Another being Dilip ‘Jethalal’ Joshi.
Joshi had a small role in the film. He’d played a servant called Ramu and was given almost no dialogues.
But yet, he must’ve made an impact.
Because 22 years later, when Salman Khan had come on the sets of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma to promote his movie Ready, he remembered Dilip Joshi’s debut alongside him.
Even though he’s been in the industry for almost 30 years now, Dilip Joshi is one of those faces you recognize very well, but one of those names you don’t know.
And even though he found global fame with Taarak Mehta, he’d already acted in 16 TV shows and 12 movies before that.
Joshi’s versatility lies in his ability to get under the skin of the character he’s playing.
Even when he was a recurring character in F.I.R, he used to capture the quirks and essence of each character with absolute perfection.
And while he has mostly dabbled in comic roles, he has displayed his serious side alongside Deepti Naval and Paresh Rawal in movies like Firaaq (based on the 2002 Gujarat riots).
And alongside SRK in One Two Ka Four.
Extremely protective about his personal life, Joshi has always let his work do the talking.
IMHO, he was the only good thing about 2009’s What’s Your Rashee?
While he’s busy with Taarak Mehta, Joshi says he doesn’t do multiple shows and movies because he wants to give his 100% to the one show he’s doing.
It looks like his dedication is our loss. For we’d love to see him in more movies and TV shows.
