Sports films in Bollywood were once a genre which was considered risky by producers. The genre found its audience with films like Lagaan and Chak De! India which proved that one doesn’t always need the popular song-and-dance-routine love story to drive the audience to theaters.
Freaky Ali, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, is yet another sports film but this one breaks stereotypes. Bollywood’s first ever Golf film, the movie is replete with humour. Nawazuddin Siddiqui stands out as a gully cricketer and a submissive gangster who chances upon Golf and finds out that he excels in the game. The way they’ve meshed Golf with Cricket will certainly be entertaining to watch.
Directed by Sohail Khan, the film also stars Arbaaz Khan, Amy Jackson & Jas Arora. Freaky Ali releases on September 9.
