Gaurav Gera Shares His Inspiration & Process Behind Chutki, Internet’s Favourite Entertainer

“Shopkeeper?” “Haan ji, Behen ji!”

It is impossible to read this line without Gaurav Gera’s voice echoing in your head. 

His Shopkeeper and Chutki videos changed the face of online comedy content. The man managed to tickle our funny bone in absolutely no time. 

Next thing you know, he was making even funnier videos with the who’s who of Bollywood.

But how did Chutki happen to him?

Apparently, his mother saw a video clip where his voice somewhat resembled that of Sharmila Tagore. Gera took the hint and created a character who was inspired from the actresses of the 70s. He copied their mannerisms and talking style and put her opposite an animated version of a typical shopkeeper from today’s age. 

That’s how Chutki and Shopkeeper came into existence.
