Gujarati Writer Who Inspired ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ Passes Away

Indian columnist, humorist, writer and a noted playwright, Taarak Mehta passed away at the age of 87 after prolonged illness.

Popular SAB TV show ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ is based on the author’s Gujarati column ‘Duniya Ne Undha Chashma’ that first appeared in Chitralekha in March 1971.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to twitter to extend condolences.

The writer is survived by daughter, Ishani, from his first marriage.
