Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan who was acquitted by the Jodhpur Court on Wednesday was booked under the wrong section of the law in the 1998 Arms Act case.
The Times Of India quoted the chief judicial magistrate saying that Salman had a valid licence for possessing and using firearms and only the renewal was needed. The actor should have been prosecuted under Section 21 and not Section 3 for failing to renew the licence.
The 51-year-old actor had been charged under Sections 325 and 27 of the Arms Act for possessing and using firearms with an expired license. He was accused of using the guns for the alleged poaching of two black bucks in Kankani village near Jodhpur.
The forest department registered the case in October 1998 when Salman Khan was in Jodhpur along with his co-stars Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Neelam and Tabu for the shooting of his film Hum Saath Saath Hai.
All the actors accused in the black buck poaching case have been summoned by the court on January 25 for the recording of statements.
After his acquittal, Salman Khan took to twitter to express his gratitude towards his fans.
