17 years after Priyanka Chopra was crowned Miss World, Miss India Manushi Chillar has won the coveted beauty title.

Chillar, who is from Haryana, was bestowed the title at the Miss World 2017 event held at Sanya City Arena in China.

She defeated 118 contestants to bag one of the most sought-after titles, India Today reported. Crowned by last year’s Miss World  Stephanie Del Valle, Chillar was visibly ecstatic after winning Miss World 2017

Twenty-one-year-old Chillar studied at St. Thomas School in New Delhi and Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat.

Ahead of the competition, she told PTI, “Though I was a medical student, I never had a plan B. I don’t want to regret anything in life, so it was really important for me to win this competition. My aim has always been to win the Miss World title.”

The first runner-up is Stephanie Hill, who is Miss England and Miss Mexico Andrea Meza was the second runner-up, NDTV reports.

The last Miss World from India was Priyanka Chopra when the Earth hit the millennium year 2000.
