Minutes after the Bombay High Court verdict arrived on Monday, which cleared the decks for the release of Udta Punjab, the Punjab and Haryana High Court issued notice to the Government of India, the producers and Central Board Of Film Certification asking them to explain whether the film’s should be restrained or not, Hindustan Times reports.
Wattan Sharma an advocate from Jalandhar in his petition said that Udta Punjab negatively brands the state and it’s youth.
“If the film is released, it will have adverse repercussions all over Punjab,” said Wattan’s lawyer Karan Bharihoke, The Indian Express reports.
The report further mentioned that the petition also referred to the allegations that apparently a political party has funded the film. Therefore, Sharma requested the court to watch the film before it hits the theatres.
In response to the petition filed by Wattan Sharma, the High Court has ordered a screening of Udta Punjab on Tuesday, where SN Kantawala, advocate of the Bombay High Court will also be present.
A notice has also been sent to Balaji Motion Pictures and Phantom Films in which the Punjab High Court has asked them for an explanation on why the film should not be restrained
The case will be heard next a day before the official release of Udta Punjab, on June 17.
