Holy Cow! Maharashtra Govt. Just Announced Jail For Consuming Beef. And This Is How Twitter Reacted

If you are a non-vegetarian, I am sure you have licked your fingers clean after having this ever-so sumptuous dish – Beef! We totally love it and cannot do without it.

But of course, how can you expect the government to approve of something we love?

Suddenly realising the importance of protecting cattle, particularly cows, President Pranab Mukherjee has given his consent to the Maharashtra Animal Preservation (Amendment) Bill, 1995, which was first passed when the BJP Shiv-Sena was in power (1995).

Which in layman language means that you can now be jailed for having beef. Yes, you read that right. If you are caught sneaking in some beef, you will have to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000 with five years in prison.

As always, this bizarre decision invited a lot of angry and witty reactions on Twitter. Here are a few:

So what if cows die on the roads, unfed and unprotected, on a daily basis? Besides, you still have water buffaloes to feast on! (Which, by the way, is inferior to cows)
