It is said that we meet our best friends in college. Apparently we’re mature enough to know what we are getting into. But where’s the fun in that? The beauty of friendship lies in meeting people at a time when we don’t know right from wrong and have no clue what we’re looking for. The first friends we make, the ones in our neighbourhood, are unmatched.
We were all young and immature and naive. Sailing in the same boat with awkwardness in all its glory, we met our colony friends and it felt like home. It was reassuring because we found others who were just like us. These colony friends have a place in our heart that no one else can fill. Here are 10 reasons why they are so special:
1. They were our first little steps towards socialising.
Remember the first time we walked up to them and introduced ourselves nervously? Our first step into making friends was indeed a proud moment for us.
2. We don’t have to tell them our life’s story because they have always been a part of it.
3. We spent a majority of our time at each others’ place.
4. Everything that is theirs, is ours and vice versa; be it stationary, clothes or even siblings.
5. We have spend the most awkward phases of our lives together.
From childhood to puberty, we were glad we had someone to talk to about all the new complexities of life.
6. They actually know us inside out. So well that they can even write a biography on us.
While our school friends would know about our love for ice cream, our colony friends were the ones who would actually have it with us.
7. They were present for all our birthday parties when we were kids.
8. Growing up didn’t mean growing apart and they were always there for us.
9. When we were with them, there was no curfew!
Our parents trusted us with them just because they lived across the street.
10. They taught us what it meant to be friends for life.
Boys and girls come, steal our hearts and leave. But our colony friends have always stayed with us!
