Human beings often move in mad inexplicable ways. But there are some who redefine obscurity in entirely new ways. Often when we look at beggars, we feel sorry for the opportunities the state or society has not been able to arrange for them. But did you ever think of a beggar who loans money to traders and still begs because he is insecure of losing his ‘profession’?
Meet Pappu Kumar. With a current holding of 2000 square feet of land worth Rs 1.25 crore, 5 lakh rupees, o ngoing interest earning from loans to businessmen along with the principal amount loaned, here is a man who is still found in Patna railway station daily, begging.
According to this Deccan Herald report , his crorepati status became public when the RPF took him into custody during a special drive in which the beggars in and around the Patna junction premises, were being removed. The police personnel were taken by surprise when they found four ATM cards on him. On further query, it was found that the savings accounts had a balance of Rs. 5 lakhs and he lent Rs 10 lakhs as loan to small traders at high interest rates.
When a senior RPF official suggested getting treatment for his injured hand and leg, the 32-year old Pappu shot back: “If I am cured, how will I continue begging?”
Once an aspiring engineer, he was left handicapped permanently by an accident and soon realised that his broken leg and hand could be used as a medium of gaining sympathy for begging. He inherited some family property too that he soon sold to buy a new plot
