Gender roles and gender equity has for long been a debated topic in India. While many have come forward to take a stand on this, it is always good to see more people, especially men, come forward and speak up against inequality.
Amongst others, Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli has also expressed his views condemning the ill-treatment of women in our society. The Indian society has always treated women as inferiors leading to this situation, he was quoted as saying.
In an interview with the Hindu , Virat, who generally only speaks of cricket, spoke about how he is disturbed by the rise in crime against women and how it is as much a social problem as a law-and-order one. Here’s what he said:
According to the cricketer, the root of the problem lies in the treatment of women in society and Virat condemned this disturbing mentality of people.
Virat is a man of multiple hues. A fine batsman, an aggressive captain, an expressive individual and above all a young man carving his own legacy. Which is why it’s even more heartening to see him speak up.
