He was my first. And, I believe, he was the first for most of my generation, especially us in India. Yes, we had all heard of Pele and Cruyff. We’d all swear by Maradona, and that goal. Some of us were even lucky enough to have elders tell us tales of their incredible feats. But Zidane, he was the first one we truly saw. He was the one who really showed us what football could be. Or rather, what it should be. Before Cristiano Ronaldo, before Messi and before the irrepressible Ronaldinho, there was Zidane. And on his birthday, we celebrate some of his finest moments.
