Libraries are fascinating, a place providing absolute silence so that you can concentrate on your work without any disturbance. Still remember how they were a hot spot during the exam time. So, yeah libraries are the best place when you are looking for peace but they won’t interest you if you are looking for amusement. This is the only thing that makes this library in Bandung, a village of Indonesia special. It’s nothing like you’ve seen before.
Florian Heinzelmann and his Netherlands-based design firm, Shau decided to give this village a gift of this quirky communal space.
It is made of 2,000 used ice cream buckets.
The ice buckets are not just randomly placed, they say “Books are the windows to the world” in binary language.
According to a report in Tech Insider, Heinzelmann said, “The team ordered 2,000 used ice cream buckets from an online seller to build the walls. Besides reducing waste, using recycled materials fosters awareness of Indonesia’s growing amount of plastic waste, which has been clogging waterways and beaches in recent years.”
The ‘walls’ made of the plastic are semi-transparent and sunlight shines through them during the daytime. Genius right?
Looks even more pretty at the night though.
