Nando’s Tried To Be Cleverly Punny With Their New Ad But Instead Came Out Sounding All Tharki

When it comes to a brand’s image, a lot rides on what is being said. Sadly, these processes leading up to the final advertisements are not exactly known for their gender sensitivity. Had they been, we would not have been fighting so hard and long to get rid of objectification of people.

Now, what business does a restaurant chain have bringing up women’s bodies into their advertisements? A sensible person would say ‘none’ but restaurant chain Nando’s would clearly not know what the entire fuss is about.

Nando’s thought it was okay to place this sexist ad in a leading daily.

It is not okay to say “Whatever you’re into” and giving approval to touching “our buns, or breasts, or even our thighs”. The point that they think ‘breasts’, ‘buns’ and ‘thighs’ make good puns – or, actually, puns at all – shows how tasteless the advertisement is.

Needless to say, people are not taking this ad lightly.

And if one thinks this was all some harmless fun, then one must know that this is not the first time Nando’s has come up with a blatantly sexist ad. Or even something like this:

Also, the only thing that the advertisement accomplished is to show that they probably don’t see a difference between women and meat.

Nando’s, if you truly believe that your food is great, then maybe next time you should try luring people without sexist puns and ads.
