This Guy’s Response To A Restaurant Asking For A Free Gig Speaks For Every Struggling Musician

Sanchi Gupta

I think the misconception that all new or part-time musicians are desperate strugglers walking around with guitars strapped to their backs, looking for someone, anyone, to give them one teeny tiny opportunity to display their talent, needs to die.

Musicians are artists who work very hard, labouring into the wee hours of the morning, sometimes to finish just a couple of verses. Only after extensive sessions and multiple improvisations is a song good to go.

So, when some loser comes along and disregards this lot’s professional value by trying to get them to “play for free” at random venues, it really, really sucks.

Who’s going to pay for production costs, rent and equipment, buddy? Not you, for sure. You just want an act for the night. What have you got to lose, right? I say, try going without your salary for a while. Then you’ll know.

Sure, musicians want to promote and sell their work just like anyone else. But does that mean having to do so without any returns? Whatever happened to the good, old concept of give-and-take?

I mean, seriously, is the worth of an individual’s creativity derived from a free gig?

No. No. NO.

Thank god someone finally spoke up on the matter and successfully defended the entire music community’s honour with one incredible diss. Check it out for yourself:

Now, that’s what I call tit for tat. This guy’s sass made my heart sing with joy.

Also, to hell with you, freeloaders. Shame on you. Artists all over the world deserve much more than this. It’s not just about the money but also the respect you offer. Keep these things in mind the next time you put out an ad.
