More Than 1 Lakh Additional Names Excluded From NRC In Assam Ahead Of July Deadline

Assam has published a new exclusion list today, with an additional 1 lakh names to be removed from the National Register of Citizens. 

According to India Today, an additional exclusion list with the names of 1,02,462 people to the draft NRC was published in Assam. These 1 lakh names have been excluded in the register of citizens as they were found ineligible to be in the final draft.

The people whose names have not been included will now be informed individually through Letters of Information, delivered to them at their residential addresses.

These people will have the opportunity to file their claims at the designated NRC Seva Kendras (NSKs) till July 11.

The claims will be deposed before the publication of the NRC on July 31.

According to a statement by the state coordinator of the NRC, the said list has been published as per the provisions of the  Clause 5 of the Schedule of the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules 2003

The NRC in Assam is being updated under the watchful eyes of the Supreme Court and the final list is scheduled to be released on July 31.
