A 10-year-old boy from Chennai contributed Rs 1000 to the efforts of cleaning the river Ganga. What is more amazing is the fact that he secured his contribution amount by winning the first prize in a school competition.
In a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, G Shashank has requested that the amount be used for ‘the river Ganga cleaning process.’ He also mentioned that he is sending the money to the National Relief Fund because he is keen on doing national work, reports India Today.
His letter also talks about the details of the competition he had won. He is a Class 5 student of DAV school and won a Sanskrit-based competition to clinch the contribution amount.
Shashank, in his letter, referred to river Ganga as the ‘religious river of the country’ and says that we should ‘maintain it’. He has also invited PM Modi to his house in Chennai.
The thoughtful gesture got prompt reaction from the PMO with undersecretary PK Bali, thanking him and acknowledging his contribution. He also informed him that the Prime Minister appreciates the ‘thoughtful gesture.’
Cleaning of river Ganga has been on top of the Modi government’s agenda. It launched the Namami Gange project worth Rs 20,000 crore to improve the condition of the holy river that hosts more than 40% of the country’s population.
