An 85-year-old man in Hyderabad has been arrested for sexually assaulting a number of minors over the years by offering them cash and sweets.

N Satyanarayana Rao, a retired railway officer was arrested by Kushaiguda police on Wednesday for raping a 12-year-old, reported Deccan Chronicle

He had reportedly lured the victim into his house by offering a chocolate .

However, it wasn’t an isolated case as further investigation revealed that he had in the past similarly raped and assaulted six other girl students from the same school. He would offer them chocolates and cash for visiting his house and then later threaten them to keep quiet.

“The minor girl, a class VII student, complained to her parents about the sexual assault by the old man who was living in the neighbourhood. They approached us on Monday night,” Police Inspector N. Venkata Ramana was quoted as saying.

“Our ‘She Teams’ are creating awareness programs in schools and educating students, especially girls, about good and bad touch. The arrest took place when the incident came to light and our team immediately acted on it,” Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat told CNN News 18.

Close to six cases have been registered against the man under section 376 and POCSO Act. An Additional case under the SC/ST ( Prevention of Atrocities) Act has also been slapped as some of the victims are Dalits, reported The News Minute
