Desperate times require desperate measures and sometimes extreme situations can bring out courage that lay dormant, irrespective of age or gender. And this is exactly what happened in Dishant Mehndiratta’s case, a 13-year-old who has been chosen for the National Bravery Award,
Accordind to a report in The Indian Express, the class eight student from Saupins School in Panchkula saved his mother’s life by knocking off a knife from a robber’s hand.
The robber, who was threatening to kill Dishant and his brother Ryaan, was then overpowered by the mother-son duo.
Dishant’s father was at work when the robber came posed a visitor and asked to use the bathroom, but later grabbed a knife and threatened the family. Dishant made a show of begging for his mother’s safety but moments later grabbed the knife and threw it away. After a brief fight, the accused was arrested. Dishant will receive a medal and certificate from the PM Narendra Modi in Delhi on January 26.
Asked about the bravery award Dishant advised all children to be brave and said, “I feel encouraged with the appreciation I have received from the local administration.”
