The Railway Protection Force on Tuesday arrested 27-year old Nandadeep Sandeep Keer for punching and damaging an LCD screen on the Mumbai-Goa Tejas Express, reported Mumbai Mirror

The incident came to light on June 10, barely a few weeks after reports of passengers vandalising the train on its very first journey in May made headlines.

It was only after scanning through CCTV footage and IRCTC booking list that the Railway officials managed to arrest the Dadar resident who was travelling in the train with his group of friends.

“It was only after the earphones got stolen from the train on its maiden journey that CCTV cameras were installed inside the coaches. It proved to be of great help,” Sachin Bhalode, senior divisional security commissioner of RPF, Central Railway was quoted as saying to Mumbai Mirror.

The accused was produced before a court on Tuesday in Mumbai and was released after he paid a fine of Rs 25,000. According to Hindustan Times, he was arrested under 145(b), 145 (c) and 147 of the Railway Act and was asked to pay Rs 22,000 for damaging public property and the rest 3000 as penalty.

When questioned, Keer confessed that he punched the screen as it was not functional.
