A R Rahman Shares The Stage With Pele And Ganguly, Kolkata Goes Nuts

It’s not always when fans get to see legends from three different fields on one platform, but when they do — it makes for a majestic, memorable sight. A jubiliant crowd at Kolkata’s Netaji Indoor Stadium was graced with the presence of two sports legends and India’s popular music maestro on Monday, as reported by NDTV .

Academy Award winner A R Rahman, shared the stage with Indian cricket’s prince Sourav Ganguly and the magical football legend Pele, and electrified the crowds. It was Pele’s birthday, and as A R Rahman sang the Happy Birthday jingle, Pele was overcome by emotions. After cutting the cake Pele said, “I thank God for this day.”

Pele cut a birthday cake shaped like the Jules Rimet trophy, and Rahman sang the Jai Ho song, in presence of Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee. A R Rahman has also composed the soundtrack for an upcoming movie about Pele’s life.

For the people of Kolkata, known for their love of football and music, the two greats accompanied by their prince Ganguly was nothing less then a celestial treat.
