It was Pele’s birthday, and as A R Rahman sang the Happy Birthday jingle, Pele was overcome by emotions. After cutting the cake Pele said, “I thank God for this day.”

Pele cut a birthday cake shaped like the Jules Rimet trophy, and Rahman sang the Jai Ho song, in presence of Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee. A R Rahman has also composed the soundtrack for an upcoming movie about Pele’s life.

For the people of Kolkata, known for their love of football and music, the two greats accompanied by their prince Ganguly was nothing less then a celestial treat.
